My husband and I are new parents. We do not know how much to pay our babysitter. Our baby is 2 months old. The sitter is 16. The sitter comes to the house one day for 8 hours, and another for 4 hours (so a total of 12 hours a week). All she has to do is change diapers as needed, and do a couple of feedings. The rest of the time she either just snuggles the baby, or reads to the baby. If the baby is calm or sleeping the sitter is free to watch tv, eat our food, etc. We don’t know how much we should pay her. Help!

Hello all, I am looking for an occasional sitter for my 3 children (1 is in summer school) so mainly two children, ages 5 and 7 yrs. I have been in California for about a year and never needed it before, I’d like to know what the rates for someone to come over to my house once or twice a week would be!

i’m a 20 year old girl, i live on my own at university, i moved out of my Mothers house 2 years ago cos i couldn’t take it anymore.

i personally think she’s bipolar it would make sense, she has extreme highs and does mad things like buying stuff she can’t afford, or redecorating the whole house.

she’s paranoid, she just broke up with her long suffering husband, she says she never trusted him, but he is the most trustworthy guy i have ever met and she was very lucky to have somebody like him, who would put up with the things she says and does. From the age of 14 she accused me and my step-dad of sleeping together, this isn’t true as i’m a lesbian and neither of us would do that to her, but she won;t let it go, every argument we have she brings this up.

when my step-dad left her she phoned me and asked if he’d be living with me now.

when i was living with her it was a nightmare, i have 2 brothers, one aged 14, and a half brother aged 4, they still live with her. she would constantly scream at me, when i came home from school i used to dread opening the front door cos i never knew what sort of mood she’d be in or what she’d do. She’s not physically abusive, just emotionally, but its still messed me up pretty bad and i worry for my younger brothers.

Also she is a mother in her 40’s and she goes out 3 times a week, sometimes more if she can get a sitter, she dresses up in really skimpy outfits, policewoman, maid etc, and comes back so drunk she doesn’t even know who she is, she goes to random peoples houses, goes off with guys shes never met, and stay out all night if she has a babysitter that’s staying over.

i just don’t know what to do about her, she clearly needs help, she was treated for depression once but that didn’t help, my 14 year old brother is already oversensitive, shy and emotionally immature, it not healthy to live in that environment.

my step-dad has just got a house and he says he will try and get custody of his son (the 4 year old) but the 14 year old is not his family as far as the law is concerned so there’s nothing he can do for him. Our Dad has a family of his own now and there isn’t really any room for him.

is there any way i can force my Mother to get help? she can barely look after herself let alone 2 kids that she can’t stand the sight of.

I used to babysit them and occasionally watch their pets (2 dogs,cat, rabbit, hamster, turtles, fish etc) and charged them about 22 a day for the pets

I have 3 cats and she has to clean litter boxes every two days, come twice a day, and bring in the mail.

I was thinking of paying $ 15 a day, she is 13. so that seems pretty fair. (im 21 and charge about 25 a day). is that enough? I feel bad giving her less than what I charged them but I have less pets, 10+ plus years of experience and so on.

I’m going to be house sitting for my mom’s friend in July. It’s for around 5 days and I will be staying at the house (sleeping over). I will also be taking care of the woman’s two cats. I’ve never been a house sitter before and have no idea what a reasonable rate would be. I’m meeting with her in a couple days and she’s going to walk me through her house. At this point, she will probably ask me how much I think I should make.

Any ideas for how much to charge a day?
